Day 17 fancy: 9 years ago, I had the marvelous, magical fortune of meeting the man who would become my husband. We commemorated that, as we have in years past, with a million-hour meal at Blue Hill Stone Barns. This course in particular stood out — a sheep’s milk cheese made with pig bone bio charcoal, and plated with pickled strawberries. The room twinkled, the food and hospitality dazzled, and glimpses of my handsome companion — my favorite person in this or any other universe — kept making my breath catch. How’d I get so lucky?

Day 16 meh: Frankly, not a lot of joy or fancy right now. This little fella, who’s been my friend for 8 of the 10 years he’s been around is fading away from me, and it’s so tough to watch. He seems calm right now, and I hope he remains so. Just trying to treat him the way I hope I will be someday, and hoping he transcends peacefully.
If you can spare a good thought for him, I’m sure we’d both appreciate it.
Day 11 joy: This marvelous creature has been my best friend since the day I moved to college back in Ye Olden Dayes of 1990. I do not get to see her nearly enough, as she lives in North Carolina, but seeing as it is physically impossible for me to be anything but radiantly happy around her, that needs to change.
Cocktail with best friend of 23+ years should be a prescribable anti-anxiety drug.
Day 10 fancy: A dear friend has moved to town, and we noted the occasion with fancy-ass cocktails and dinner with him (and his lovely mama) at The Modern. At 42, he’s decided to seek his destiny in NYC. Just one year ago at (fittingly enough) an Epiphany party, I announced to the room that said friend would like to find a job, an apartment and a husband here within the next year. Two down, one to go. Cheers!

Calm is the new joy
Day 8 fancy: It took a while for me to be able to write this story about what it’s like to live with anxiety for CNN, but it published today. Then I hosted a chat about it for an hour. People were almost invariably soul-baring and kind — and it was a LOT to process. When my colleague Sarah suggested a cocktail at our favorite fancy spot in celebration, I wasn’t about to say no.
